Oncoba spinosa Forssk. Main specimen
Salicaceae
{ Human uses | Handicrafts }

The wood of Oncoba spinosa is hard and heavy and it takes a good polish. It is used for tool-handles, poles or cabinet works.

In Africa the dry fruits of Oncoba spinosa are hollowed out and used as snuff-boxes.

If the fruit is left to dry with the seeds inside then it make amusing rattles for children. They are also filled with pebbles or hard seeds for that purpose.
