The leaves of Azadirachta indica grow alternately on the stem (spirally arranged).
The leaves are compound (pinnate). They are composed of about 6-10 pairs of sub-opposite leaflets (sometimes with a terminal leaflet). The compound leaf is 20-30 cm long and 10-15 cm wide with a 4-6 cm long petiole. The leaflets are bright green coloured above and paler beneath. The leaflet is coriaceous. They are 6-8 cm long and 2-2.5 cm wide. The blade is lanceolate, curved (falcate), the apex is acuminate, the base is oblique and the margins are serrate except near the base.
The leaflets have a 2-3 mm long petiolule. The venation of the leaf is reticulate with a prominent midrib.
